A significant and strong typhoon is anticipated to strike Okinawa and Amami in the country's southwest from Monday through Tuesday, according to the weather bureau of Japan.
Typhoon Khanun, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), was heading north-northwest at 15 kilometers per hour as of 7:00 a.m. local time on Monday.
According to the JMA, the storm had a core air pressure of 960 hectopascals, winds as high as 144 kph at its center, and gusts as high as 198 kph.
The agency also stated that on Monday, gusts of up to 90 kph are anticipated in Okinawa and up to 72 kph in Amami.
On Tuesday, the storm is expected to get closest to the areas of Okinawa and Amami after gradually changing its trajectory to the west but still moving northward.
