Imran Khan, the chairman of the PTI, was sentenced to three years in prison on Saturday after being found guilty of "corrupt practices" in the Toshakhana case by an Islamabad trial court.

The PTI leader was also given a Rs. 100,000 punishment by the court.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) filed a criminal complaint against Imran for hiding information about Toshakhana presents, leading to his indictment in the case on May 10.

The trial court determined that the accusations against the former prime minister in the case were proven during the hearing today, which was presided over by Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Humayun Dilawar.

“Imran Khan deliberately submitted fake details [of Toshakhana gifts] to the ECP and is found guilty of corrupt practices,” he stated and sent the PTI chief to jail for three years under Section 174 of the Election Act.

Additionally, ADSJ Dilawar ordered that a copy of the ruling be forwarded to the head of the Islamabad police department for the purpose of carrying out the court's directions.

Only attorneys were permitted inside the courtroom prior to today's hearings, and a sizable police presence was present outside the courthouse. However, Imran was not present during the hearing, nor were his attorneys.
