In battle on Sunday in Niger's west, six troops and ten "terrorists" were killed, according to officials.

The troops were assaulted on Sunday by alleged jihadists on motorcycles close to the western town of Sanam, according to a statement from the National Guard High Command.

Sanam is located in the Tillaberi tri-border region, which is where Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger converge.

According to the military authority in charge after President Mohamed Bazoum's coup on July 26, five troops were killed in an attack in the same location on August 9.

General Abdourahamane Tiani, the mastermind of the coup, has cited the "deteriorating security situation" as justification for toppling Bazoum.
