The ongoing week has not been good for the iconic Statue of Liberty in United States’ New York City as it was struck by lightning on Wednesday and less than 48 hours later, it was shaking during an unusual 4.8 magnitude earthquake.

In a video shared by EarthCam on X, the statue and the New York City skyline trembled when the quake hit around 10:23am.

A person commented on X: “Lady Liberty has had a rough week.”

The Statue of Liberty was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the United States and is recognised as a symbol of freedom and democracy.

The statue was dedicated on October 28, 1886. It was designated as a National Monument in 1924.

Employees of the National Park Service have been caring for the colossal copper statue since 1933.

Fortunately, despite the rare earthquake, no damages or deaths were reported. However, three buildings in Newark were compromised and deemed unsafe.

The USGS said that around 42 million people felt the quake, reaching as far as Washington DC and New York-Canada border.

Data from the NYC Emergency Management shows that New York City has recorded its largest earthquake of 5.2 magnitude in 1884._Geo TV
